Brutalist Architecture at the Geisel Library in San Diego
California has a lot of great architecture, and today we wanted to share a great location near San Diego: the Geisel Library at the University of California San Diego. The Geisel Library is a stunning brutalist building by William L. Pereira. Its cantilevered structure is very unique. Here’s a wide shot that will give you a good idea of the overall design:
This structure has a lot of patterns, so using a telephoto lens is a good way to isolate them and create abstract images. The sharp edges are definitely an interesting feature.
Filling the frame also works here, playing with the reflections.
The building’s symmetry was pretty irresistible, so take advantage of it. It works better in mid-range images.
